Man charged for carrying incendiary devices, weapons

SEATTLE -- King County Prosecuting Attorney Dan Satterberg filed charges against Justin Jasper for possession of an incendiary device, stolen weapons and vehicle. King County Prosecuting Attorney Dan Satterberg filed the charges on Tuesday.

Jasper, 21, of Nevada, was arrested near the University of Washington campus the evening of July 3. When police searched his vehicle, it was discovered he was carrying weapons, body armor and what appeared to be Molotov cocktails in the truck, along with maps of three area colleges — UW, Seattle University and South Seattle Community College.

In addition to the maps, police said they also found some sort of literature from Brazil in Jasper’s truck. UW police documents show that Jasper identifies himself as a self-employed journalist.

Citing his threat to the community and his risk of flight, the judge set the bail for Jasper at $2 million.

The truck that Jasper was driving at the time of his arrest was stolen, police said. A rifle, double-barrel shotgun and the body armor were also stolen from the owner of the truck. The truck’s owner, who is an acquaintance of Jasper’s, declined to press charges.

It is unclear what intention’s Jasper had with targeting local colleges.
