GRANITE FALLS -- A Snohomish County Sheriff's helicopter reached an injured hiker on Mount Pilchuck Saturday morning and brought him off the mountain.

The hiker, a 22-year-old man, called 911 Friday evening to report that he'd injured his ankle during a hike on the mountain and needed to be rescued, the Snohomish Sheriff's Office reported.

The injured hiker was with two other hikers, who built a fire to keep warm -- the group was at an elevation of 5,100 feet. Ground search and rescue teams reached the three hikers and stayed with the injured hiker overnight.

Around 5:30 a.m. Saturday, the Snowhawk 10 helicopter was able to land and rescue the injured hiker.  The man was flown to the Verlot Ranger Sation and then transported to Providence Medical Center in Everett.  The man's identity and city of residence have not been released.
