Minor league baseball team halts gun giveaway on 2nd Amendment night

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. -- A minor league baseball team will still hold a 2nd Amendment night celebration, though the team canceled the gun giveaway originally planned.

The Class AA Huntsville, Ala. Stars baseball team planned to raffle off three guns in celebration of "2nd Amendment Night" held at the stadium. The Milwaukee Brewers affiliate was slated to raffle off the guns from Larry's Pistol & Pawn, but canceled the raffle following increasing media scrutiny.

"2nd Amendment Night" will still be held Wednesday night.

"The governing bodies of minor league teams told us it wouldn't be in our best interest to have the raffle," Huntsville media relations director Nicole Collins told USA TODAY.

The ball club planned to give away a Ruger American, a Ruger 22-45 MKIII and a Ruger 10-22-TD to the Huntsville store.

The team offered a full refund to all customers who had purchased tickets The event against the Chattanooga Lookouts will still feature fireworks and free admission to anyone who presented  a valid NRA card. The team expected 6,000-8,000 fans at the event, USA TODAY reported, much higher than their average attendance of 1,900.
