Mariners fall short in late rally

SEATTLE -- The Mariners hosted the Cubs Sunday at Safeco Field to close out the three-game series.

Chicago had a six-run lead until the bottom of the fifth when Nick Franklin singled to right to score Brad Miller.

The Cubs held a 7-3 lead going in to the eighth inning. Raul Ibanez opened scoring in the bottom of the inning hitting a solo home run to right. With Kendrys Morales on first, Kyle Seager homered to right cutting the Cubs' lead to 7-6.

Both teams were scoreless in the ninth and the Mariners were edged 7-6. Seattle took one game in the series of three.

Cubs' Edwin Jackson came away with the win on the mound, while the Mariner's Jeremy Bonderman took the loss.
