Local clinic offers free microchips for dogs, cats

Frankie says: Keep your pet safe and get them microchipped

SEATTLE -- A Woodinville animal clinic is offering to microchip dogs and cats for free before the Fourth of July holiday.

The Homeward Pet Dunmire Veterinary Clinic is offering the service Thursday from 4-7 p.m. and Friday from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. The animals must be spayed or neutered in order to receive a free microchip.

According to Homeward Pet, more runaway and lost pets end up in animal shelters on the Fourth of July holiday than any other time of the year.

Due to fireworks, pets can become scared and panic and often escape from their normal enclosures. They can also lose their sense of direction and end up far from home.

Homeward Pet said pet owners need to keep their animals safe by making sure they are microchipped and wearing secure collars with current license and identification tags.
