Sen. Murray wants to limit Border Patrol’s reach
According to the Seattle Weekly, Murray is pushing an amendment that would “shrink” the Constitution-free zone surrounding international boundaries.
Under the current law, border agents can stop and search vehicles within 100 miles of an “external boundary” and enter private property located within 25 miles of an international boundary.
The Weekly reports that Border Patrol searches have been especially rampant on the Olympic Peninsula, where immigrant families are frequent targets.
