Seattle Art Museum cuts hours for summer

SEATTLE -- The Seattle Art Museum is cutting back the hours it will be open, but officials say they're simply adjusting the museum's schedule to the most popular visiting hours.   Starting July 1st, the museum will be closed on Tuesdays.  It's already closed Mondays.  On Fridays, the museum will only be open until 5pm, where it used to stay open until 9pm.  The Seattle Times reports museum officials say the new hours will save on operating costs and won't result in any cuts in the workforce or exhibits offered by the museum.

They say thin crowds on Friday nights did not justify staying open until 9pm.   The museum will continue to offer Remix at SAM three times a year on Friday evenings.
