Cyclists shed clothes for Solstice Parade

SEATTLE -- It’s officially summer in Seattle when the rain ends for a few hours, the clouds part, the sun makes an appearance... and naked cyclists take to the streets of Fremont.

Thousands packed the north Seattle neighborhood on Saturday for the Fremont Solstice Parade.

The annual event, now in its 25th year, is known for a general lack of clothing and an abundance of creative expression.

Body paint is optional although encouraged. The more artistic slather on wild color schemes and playful patterns.

Ben Greco brought his friends, snacks and an old couch to sit out and enjoy the sights on. He said it’s his favorite festival of the year.

"This is the most unique parade ever,” said Greco. “This is an incredible sight and creativity you don't see anywhere else. It's just beautiful."

The two-day festival is not just about cyclists sans clothes. Summer enthusiasts enjoy shopping, arts and crafts, beer, and free yoga.

The fun continues on Sunday with the beloved dog parade, which like Saturday’s spectacle, is clothing-optional for four-legged participants.
