Puyallup expected to vote on the future of halfway houses

Puyallup- After a prolonged moratorium on halfway houses, the city of Puyallup could make a final decision

Tuesday night. Council members will vote on an ordinance that aims to ban two or more sex offenders or violent felons from living together in residential areas.

After public outrage, the city imposed a moratorium on all halfway houses giving them time to research the issue until tonight.

The ordinance will also require business owners to acquire a special permit if they want to open a halfway house.

Last month Governor Inslee signed a law that gives local cities more oversight and residents more power to weigh in before any halfway houses can open.

The meeting starts at 6:30 p.m. at 333 South Meridian in Puyallup.

The public will get the chance to speak before the vote.
