LAKE STEVENS — Although Molly Conley wasn’t from Lake Stevens, the community held a memorial march Monday for the 15-year-old girl who was killed in a random drive-by shooting n June 1. Meanwhile, the reward for information on who killed her rose to more than $34,000.
The ninth-grader from Seattle’s Bishop Blanchet High School was celebrating her 15th birthday in Lake Stevens when she was shot by a passing car while she was walking along a road with friends.
Police said it was believed to be a dark-colored car, but they have no suspects.
Local business owner Joe Neverkewitz raised two kids in Lake Stevens and said he is raising money and guaranteeing $25,000 toward helping catch her killer. He started the Lake Stevens Community Outreach Fund at Chase Bank and is collecting donations.
The Crime Stoppers reward right now is more than $34,000 for information leading to an arrest.
“I want the killer,” Neverkewitz said. “I want him caught and behind bars where he belongs. I do whatever I gotta do to make it happen. It’s my community. I been here a long time. I raised two kids here and it’s not gonna happen in my community.
“I gotta believe there’s been other people in the car with the shooter and I’ve got to think if that’s the life they live of popping caps and shooting kids on the side of the road that $25,000 is a lot of money, that hopefully it will be enough incentive to turn somebody in,” Neverkewitz said.
Contributors can donate to the reward fund at any Wells Fargo or Chase bank.
