LINCOLN CITY, Ore. -- The driver who struck and killed a Seattle man dribbling a soccer ball to the World Cup in Brazil was arrested Monday on charges of criminally negligent homicide, The Oregonian reported.

Scott Van Hiatt, 52, of Neskowin, Ore., was being held on $50,000 bail in the Lincoln County Jail pending arraignment Tuesday, the newspaper said.

Lincoln County deputy district attorney Elijah Michalowski said a grand jury indicted Van Hiatt last Thursday.

Lincoln City Police Lt. Jerry Palmer said soccer fan Richard Swanson was walking along U.S. 101 near the south city limits around 10 a.m. May 14 when struck from behind by a 1995 Nissan pickup truck being driven by Hiatt. Palmer said Hiatt remained at the scene and cooperated with investigators.
