TUMWATER – An unsecured barbeque fell off a vehicle on Interstate 5 in Tumwater, causing a two-car collision Saturday morning. Washington State Patrol Trooper Guy Gill said that the accident happened in the northbound lanes of the Interstate just north of Tumwater Boulevard around 10:40 a.m. A driver slowed down to see what the object ahead of him was, and the car behind him rear-ended the first car.
Fortunately, neither driver was seriously hurt, but it took a tow truck to pry apart the two-cars, Gill said. No one saw which vehicle lost the unsecured barbeque. The collision caused a lengthy backup, Gill said. WSP oftens sees objects like barbeques ending up on the freeway during the summertime, but usually the barbeques are the circular models, Gill said. And around Christmas time, WSP frequently sees Christmas trees on the freeway, Gill said. Bottom line, all drivers need to remember to secure their loads, whatever the object might be.
