Debris flow threatens hikers
EVERETT - Landslides continue to threaten small debris flows and muddy floods in the upper reaches of Middle Fork Nooksack River.
The U.S. Forest Service warns hikers to stay away from the Ridley Creek and Elbow Lake trails located in that area of the Mt. Baker-Snoqualmie National Forest.
Forest rangers have posted warning signs at the trail-heads.
"This is the only area of concern," said Hydrologist Carolyn Driedger.
"Rocks are slick with mud and more debris flows from small water impoundments can occur," said Driedger.
The activity is being caused by the debris flow two weeks ago from the Deming Glacier on the southwest side of Mt. Baker.
