UW senior arrested for rape of 12-year-old

SEATTLE -- Police arrested a University of Washington senior Monday for allegedly raping a 12-year-old girl he met on University Avenue.

According to court documents, Seattle police received a call around 8 p.m. Monday from a man near the University District neighborhood of Seattle. The man said he was on the street with a 22-year-old man he knew from a previous job. The caller said the man admitted to having sex with a 15-year-old girl who was on the street with him.

Police arrived on the scene and interviewed the suspect and the young girl. The suspect allegedly told police he was walking near the university late Sunday when he spotted the young girl "dressed provocatively." The suspect allegedly sparked up a conversation with her and invited her back to his apartment to smoke pot. The suspect said the two "hooked up," but declined to tell police if he knew her age.

The young girl allegedly told police that she told the suspect she was 12 years old on the street when they first met. She said they had sex multiple times throughout the night and the morning, police said.

A guardian reported the girl missing earlier Monday.

The suspect was arrested and being held in King County Jail on $100,000 bail. He is expected to be charged with second-degree child rape.
