U.S. blanks Panama 2-0 in World Cup qualifier
SEATTLE -- After waiting 37 years to host the second World Cup qualifier in Seattle history, CenturyLink Field got to be the venue Tuesday night for the U.S. versus Panama match.
The game was scoreless until the 36th minute when Michael Bradley found Fabian Johnson making a run for the left corner. Johnson was able to send the ball across the goalmouth to Jozy Altidore who finished off with the goal.
Then, eight minutes out of the break, U.S. team's Geoff Cameron sent a 25-yard chip over the top of Panama's midfield to Eddie Johnson, who was able to get behind the defense and put U.S. up 2-0.
For Eddie Johnson, who plays for the Seattle Sounders, he got to play in front of his home crowd, so there was no surprise when his goal made the fans go wild.
U.S. finished the game with a 2-0 shutout to earn three points.
The U.S. team will head to Utah, where they will take on Honduras June 18 at Rio Tinto Stadium.
