Was Harbaugh taking a 'cheat' shot at Seahawks over PED use?
SANTA CLARA, Calif. -- San Francisco 49ers head coach Jim Harbaugh made it clear he has noticed the Seahawks' recent trend of performance-enhancing drug infractions.
Harbaugh addressed how he felt about the issues surrounding Seattle Tuesday at 49ers mini-camp.
"I've definitely noticed it," he said. "You don't know what it is. Even when people say what is, you don't know what it is," he mentioned in reference to the banned substance Bruce Irvin used.
Using Adderall as the example, he went on to say "... the NFL doesn't release what it actually is, so you have no idea. You're taking somebody at their word that I don't know if you can take them at their word, understanding the circumstances."
He said he has made it clear to his players that he will not tolerate breaking the NFL's policy on performance-enhancing drugs. He mentioned performance-enhancing drugs have no place in an athlete's body.
He said, "Play by the rules ... especially when you're good, because you don't want people to come back and say, 'They're winning because they're cheating.'''
He concluded, "If you cheat to win, then you've already lost, according to Bo Schembechler."
Seattle head coach Pete Carroll was asked today at Seahawks mini-camp about Harbaugh's comments.
Carroll said: "We've kind of dealt with this to set into motion a really clear mindset to take care of business and treat this situation that is around the league very seriously. I don't know about commenting about anybody else's team, but as far as we're concerned we feel like we've addressed it directly."
