'Suspicious' fire chars community center

Ukrainian Community Center RENTON -- A 'suspicious' fire in a dumpster spread to the backside of a Ukrainian Community Center Tuesday morning, damaging the building's auditorium and causing extensive water damage from firefighters trying to extinguish the blaze, Renton firefighters said.

According to the Renton Fire Department, the fire broke out around 2 a.m. in the 200 block of Hardie Avenue NW. The fire started in a dumpster and quickly spread to the side of the large Renton building.

Firefighters contained the flames quickly, officials said, but caused some water damage to the building while putting out the flames.

Renton police were called to a seen after witnesses reported seeing two people running from the dumpster shortly before the fire began. Police were not locate the suspects, but are calling the fire suspicious. 

No injuries were reported in the fire. The cause of the blaze is currently being investigated.
