O’CONNELL SEAN_1079EVERETT, Wash — A memorial service for a Washington State Patrol trooper killed in a traffic crash is set for 1 p.m. Thursday at the Comcast Arena in Everett.

Trooper Sean O’Connell was directing traffic around the collapsed I-5 bridge in Skagit County Friday when he was thrown from his motorcycle after colliding with a truck. He was rushed to Skagit Valley Hospital where he died.

The 16-year veteran is survived by his wife and two young children.

Thousands are expected to attend the memorial. Authorities expect traffic delays in the area.

The state patrol has set up a fund to support trooper O’Connell’s family. Donations can be mailed to the Washington State Patrol Memorial Foundation at P.O. Box 7544, Olympia, WA 98507.

  • Cause?

Anyone else notice every other accident in the news specifies who was at fault, including the recent motorcycle death. However, the stories about the officer colliding with the box truck don't say what the cause of the accident was short of "a tragic accident"??
