Man in handcuffs knocks on police door, asks for help in getting them off

CENTRALIA -- A man knocked on the back door of the Centralia Police Department and asked an officer if he would help take off the handcuffs on his wrists, according to The Chronicle newspaper.

Apparently the 21-year-old man didn’t think officers would be suspicious or run his name through the computer. Turns out he was wanted on an outstanding warrant and was taken to jail in the same handcuffs he arrived in, The Chronicle said.

The man came knocking on the police department's door at 4 p.m. Saturday, Centralia police Sgt. Kurt Reichert told the newspaper.

There was no word on the owner of the handcuffs.
