Candlelight vigil held for former Ellensburg Rodeo princess

Friends and family of former Ellensburg Rodeo princess Brittney Deter held a candlelight vigil for her Monday night at Central Washington University in Ellensburg.

The 21-year-old was killed in a suspected alcohol-related car crash in Vancouver, Wash. Deter was a passenger in a pickup truck driven by 32-year-old Julie Deming, according to The Oregonian.

The crash, which happened early Saturday morning, killed Deming instantly. Deter died at the hospital Sunday morning. Police suspect alcohol was involved and said the truck was wrapped around a tree and light pole.

Deter graduated from Ellensburg High School in 2010 and was living in the Vancouver area. Friends described her as a vivacious young woman who loved horses and barrel racing.  Her funeral will be held in Cle Elum Thursday.
