Police say daughter strapped elderly parents to bed and bilked their money

REDMOND, Wash. — Police have arrested a 65-year-old woman suspected of bilking money from her elderly parents while caging them in a room for up to 12 hours a day, the Redmond Police Department said.

Police say it all happened at a condo complex on 139th Place Northeast in Redmond.

Police were called by Adult Protective Services in August 2011 to do a welfare check on a 92-year-old man and his 89-year-old wife.

Redmond police officer Michael Dowd said they were were stunned by what they found inside.

“I guess there was a crib that was constructed. There were some latches and locks that kept the person from getting out,” Dowd said.

Police contend the woman was strapped to the crib, or to a wheelchair, sometimes for up to 12 hours a day and only released when she had to use the bathroom.

Investigators said they also found the elderly couple, both suffering from dementia and other ailments, and requiring constant care, had not received proper food or medication.

“I assume, as parents, that they took care of their daughter, and assumed that when their time came that she would take care of them and the trust was there and it appears she broke the trust,” Dowd said.

Both parents were removed from the home and put into protective custody and the daughter now has a no-contact order.

Police also alleged the daughter had been stealing from her parents — more than $67,000 over a two-year period.

“What she spent it on, I guess, is going to come out in the investigation but it appears, obviously, it wasn’t spent on the care of her parents,” Dowd said.

The daughter was arrested Wednesday and released. Police said they expect her to be  charged with first-degree theft and unlawful imprisonment. She has not been charged yet.

Unethical court-appointed "fiduciaries" of elderly wards can steal much more – in every city, county and state. They call it "billing."

Hey there would you mind stating which blog platform you’re working with? I’m going to start my own blog in the near future but I’m having a difficult time choosing between BlogEngine/Wordpress/B2evolution and Drupal. The reason I ask is because your design and style seems different then most blogs and I’m looking for something completely unique.
P.S Apologies for getting off-topic but I had to ask!
