I-5 lane closures to start Friday night in north Seattle

SEATTLE -- Up to three out of four lanes of southbound Interstate 5 in north Seattle will be closed for grinding work starting late Friday night and continue most Friday nights until March, the Washington Department of Transportation said.

The work hours and closures will occur from 10 p.m. Fridays until 10 a.m. Saturdays; there will also be occasional work from 9 p.m. Thursdays until 5 a.m. Fridays.

The project area is long. The north end project limit is Northgate, or 117th Street, and the south end of the project limit is just south of E. Roanoke Street.  While the project stretches from 117th Street near Northgate to Roanoke Avenue, crews will work on separate projects inside this five-mile area.

This Friday, crews will close up to three out of four lanes of southbound I-5 from NE Ravenna Boulevard to the I-5 Ship Canal Bridge, and the NE Ravenna Boulevard on-ramp to southbound I-5.

The I-5 Express lanes will be open southbound starting at 11:15 p.m.

Grinding concrete is loud work. Call the WSDOT’s “noise hotline” at 206-440-4368 to get free earplugs or to get more information about construction.

Work is already under way in the Kent/Federal Way area. The WSDOT is closing up to three out of five lanes of northbound I-5 in the Kent/Federal Way area, from South 308th Street to South 260th Street, from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. nightly for pavement repairs. The work will last through April.
