Stepdad charged for allegedly ‘hog-tying’ 4-year-old girl, shooting her with airsoft pellet gun

EVERETT, Wash. — A 26-year-old Lynnwood man was charged Thursday with second-degree assault of a child for allegedly  shooting his 4-year-old stepdaughter  multiple times with an airsoft pellet gun and allegedly ‘hog-tying’ her by tying her hands behind her back as a form of punishment.

Stetson Tedder was arrested Jan. 24 for investigation of second-degree assault of a child and unlawful imprisonment. Bail was set Jan. 25 at $25,000.

According to probable cause court documents, the grandmother of the 4-year-old told police Jan. 13 that she had noticed red dots “all over her body.” She at first thought the girl had chicken pox, she said, but the girl told her that Tedder shot her with a pellet gun, the document said.

The girl told her grandmother that Tedder also “had ‘hog-tied’ her by tying her hands behind her back as a form of punishment and then shot her with a pellet gun.”

A nurse at Providence Hospital in Everett counted 36 red marks on the girl’s body.

Snohomish County deputy prosecutor Adam Cornell said Friday night of the girl, “She was restrained and shot upwards of two or three dozen times. She obviously suffered harm from what has happened. The suspect was in a position of trust with this young child.”

When questioned, Tedder told a Snohomish County sheriff’s deputy that his son, who had received an airsoft gun for Christmas, had shot the girl, and the gun was taken away from him at that time. Airsoft guns fire plastic BBs designed to sting but not break the skin.

Asked about the “hog-tied” allegation, Tedder  “admitted to using duct tape to restrain” the girl’s wrists “behind her back for no longer than 30 minutes as a form of punishment,” the probable cause document said.

When other marks were found on the girl’s wrists and ankles, the girl told the hospital nurse that Tedder had also used zip-ties to restrain her, the document said.

In one incident, the girl told police, Tedder made here clean her room with her arms and feet bound and she had to pick up her clothes with her teeth.

According to court documents., Tedder also made the child to do “wall sits” up to 30 minutes at a time until her feet and legs hurt.

Asked where her mother, Michelle Tedder, was during this time, the girl said her mother would leave the area when she was being punished because she didn’t want to hear her cry.

At least one of the neighbors found the allegations difficult to believe.

“My one daughter was just over babysitting there two weeks ago and spent the night,” said neighbor Deborah Tapia, adding that the Tedders babysit her children regularly.

“I have never seen or even thought there was any abuse involved,” Tapia said. “If i was ever suspicious of anything like that, I would have reported it.”

Tedder was arrested Thursday and the 4-year-old girl was placed with a relative. Child Protective Services checked on the girl’s younger siblings in the house, and they were found with no injuries, the court documents said.

a 4 yr old ? wtf is this idiot thinking….she's just a baby and her skin is extremely fragile! my kids father would shoot my kids than deny using it as a form of punishment, luckily for him i only found one mark on my daughter and one on my son….they're a little older but still….that sh** frickin HURTS on adults so what the f*** idea did he have that it wouldn't hurt 10x more on a little baby girl!

I'd like to kick the guy's butt, though i must say that is a VERY detailed account from a 4 year old… zip ties, shooting, cleaning room while bound, picking cloths up with teeth…

It's a good thing such young kids don't make that kind of sick crap up though

Ummmmm they are still deciding on wether or not to file charges….. REALLY!!!!!! Oh if I was the grandparent in this case let them not file charges and see where that would get them!! Not going to file because why, shes 4 and not an adult yet???? Oh my this has really got me fired up!! And what kind of mother walks out the room so she cant hear her child cry??? Ummm Im a mother and a grandmother and I would do anything to keep my children/grandchildren from crying!!!!!

I am a grandmother and I do not get upset over a child crying because they do not like something that is contrary to their desires–but this is not punishment –it is unmitigated cruelty and there should not be any way that he would escape being charged and subsequently punished. What transpired is too detailed and obvious for a four year old to have invented, what part has law enforcement stymied??

First off, yep string his a$$ up. Thats horrible! Now that being said lets pick on Q13 for their irresponsible ignorance with this articles heading to amp up the readers instead of just reporting the story "as is". It's awful interesting that the Airsoft gun they chose to display looks just like an AR-15, how about a photograph of the type of weapon actually used. You notice that they never say what type in the body of the story. Also, Airsoft are not pellet guns, those shoot metal projectiles that resemble a bullet shaped style or can fire metal round bb's. Airsoft IS the discription not "pellet or BB". They do explain what airsoft shoots in the story line but the heading is misleading to say the least. They also do not explain that there are different types of airsoft that either use spring loaded power or CO2 cartridges which are much more powerfull. A difference of either 200fps or 600fps. How about some details and facts so we get the WHOLE story and keep your propoganda out of the article.

Whether it was manual spring, C02, HPA, or AEG, and whether it was a gun modeled after an AR-15(which is a pretty reasonable generalization given how many manufacturers produce AR-styled models as opposed to those modeled on other guns) are completely irrelevant. While the title is slightly misleading, an airsoft gun is, in fact, more or less a glorified bb gun that fires 6mm plastic instead of 4.5mm metal. It's not 'propaganda' so much as Q13 using poor terminology.
