Bremerton bans collective medical marijuana gardens

BREMERTON -- The Bremerton City Council has banned collective medical marijuana gardens that were authorized under a 2011 state law, the Kitsap Sun reported.

The newspaper said the council had previously passed moratoriums to delay a decision on the gardens, which allow patients to band together to grow plants.

But the council on Wednesday night sided with city attorneys, who argued that regulating and permitting the gardens might put city workers at odds with the federal government, which maintains that all marijuana is illegal.

According to the Sun, Port Orchard and Auburn also have banned the collective gardens, while Bellevue, Issaquah and Shoreline allow them.
