fluSEATTLE – Public Health — Seattle and King County is offering free flu vaccines for people who do not have insurance or cannot afford to pay for the vaccine. Like the rest of the nation, King County is experiencing widespread flu, with more people sick compared to recent years.

“The flu will likely continue to circulate for many weeks, so getting flu vaccine now can still provide  protection for the rest of the flu season,” said Dr. Jeff Duchin, Chief of Communicable Disease Epidemiology & Immunization at Public Health. “Flu vaccine is especially important for pregnant women, people in contact with infants who are too young to vaccinate, and also to people with health conditions that put them at greater risk for severe illness and hospitalization.”

Flu vaccine offers the single best protection against the flu. While many healthcare providers and pharmacies offer the vaccine, many people cannot afford them. Clinics will be held to offer just the flu vaccine. People can chose between the traditional shot or nasal spray vaccine.
