Q13 FOX, Food Lifeline and Les Schwab kick off 'Food For All Holiday Food Drive'
SEATTLE - The U.S. Department of Agriculture says more than 14 percent of Washington’s households are struggling to put food on the table. Many of those going hungry are young kids and the elderly.
For the fourth year in a row, Q13 FOX has partnered up with Les Schwab to bring food to those who need it most in our annual Food for All Holiday Food Drive, benefiting Food Lifeline.
“More than half of the people we serve are the most vulnerable. People don’t understand how common hunger is. One in four Washington children are hungry,” said Linda Nageotte, CEO and Executive Director of Food Lifeline.
Food LifeLine is a nonprofit organization dedicated to ending hunger in Western Washington, one meal at a time.
“That’s what we do 360 days a year, we supply food,” said Nageotte.
Food Lifeline supplies about 300 food banks, meal programs and shelters in our area. Last year alone, Food LifeLine distributed over 27 million meals to hungry people in Western Washington but it’s still not enough.
“Hunger is the very most basic need, food and shelter,” said Nageotte.
Monday is the first day of the Q13 FOX Food for All Holiday Food Drive, sponsored by Les Schwab.
“This is something we can really get involved with in our local community. The people we are helping are in our community, our friends, our neighbors, our customers, we are very proud to be a part of it,” said Brett Miller with Les Schwab.
Last year, with your help, 22,000 pounds of food were donated.
The food drive goes through December and you can drop off food at any Les Schwab location in Western Washington.
