Youth baseball coach charged with child rape, child porn

MAPLE VALLEY, Wash. -- David Engle was a youth baseball coach in Maple Valley for years. He was not only a coach, but also a board member and president for several different organizations.

On Monday, parents received a letter via email alerting them to talk to their children because Engle, a divorce attorney, is now behind bars for allegedly raping a child.

“That's hard as a parent,” said Maple Valley Pony Association President Kathi Turner

Up until last month, Engle was coaching dozens of children for the Maple Valley Pony Association; including Turner’s son.

“I immediately asked him if anything inappropriate happened," Turner said. "He assured me nothing happened.”

The details of the alleged crime are enough to bring Turner to tears; a man she personally knows charged with the unthinkable.

The investigation started over child pornography but when detectives searched Engle's Maple Valley home they say they found video of Engle raping a child.

“It's the most vile thing I have ever heard,” said neighbor Carla Quan. "It's just shocking."

Engle's neighbors are in disbelief while Turner is scared there could be more victims.

“I just hope that all parents talks to their kids," Turner said. "Especially all the people in the baseball community that he was involved with try to come forward if there are any other victims.”

The King County Sheriff's Office alerted various organizations including the Mount Rainier Baseball Association and Maple Valley Pony. As president, Turner is forwarding the message to all of her baseball parents encouraging them to have that sensitive but necessary conversation with their children.

“I would have never imagined he would hurt a child,” said Turner.

The feds are also looking into Engle's case because of the child pornography accusations.
